The highly acclaimed NPR show comes to Hawai`i Island for the very first time!
Join the audience and host Christopher O’Riley for a live taping that will be broadcast nationally as the spotlight shines on outstanding young classical talent!
Hawaii Public Radio is proud to announce that From the Top is coming to Hawai`i Island for the first time. The first Hawai`i-based show was taped at Honolulu’s historic Hawai`i Theatre in 2004, and there have been five shows on Oahu and Maui up to now. From the Top is a weekly, hour-long radio showcase of America’s top young classical musicians hosted by acclaimed concert pianist Christopher O’Riley.
Distributed by NPR to nearly 250 stations nationwide, From the Top reaches more than 700,000 loyal listeners each week, ranking it among the top programs on public radio along with long-term notables Car Talk and A Prairie Home Companion. It’s heard on HPR every Saturday morning from 10 to 11 a.m. From the Top records its programs in front of live audiences at its home concert hall New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall, Carnegie Hall, and up to 20 communities across the country each year. We’re delighted to be a part of From the Top’s 10th Anniversary Season!
From the Top’s education and community outreach programs bring classical music and From the Top performers into classrooms, youth organizations, and arts programs across the country. The goals: to inspire the pursuit of excellence in children of all ages, engage From the Top performers in sharing their gifts, and thrill young audiences with the joy of music making.
You can be a part of the live audience for this taping, a performance that will be broadcast nationally! The names of the kids performing will be announced in December, but you’ll want to ensure your place in the theatre for the first live From the Top taping on Hawai`i Island.
