About the Community Project
The Kahilu Theatre’s community project was created as an opportunity for the Kahilu Theatre Foundation to pair with another non-profit in the community to raise awareness of an important community issue.
These projects are centered on a specific theme and involve workshops, supplemental educational opportunities, and development of a dance performance that is held at the Kahilu Theatre in the Spring. The show is then refined and made part of the Kahilu Theatre’s youth performance season.
Water-ver May-be
Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 7pm
Sunday, May 2, 2010 at 2pm
50 dancers, ranging from enthusiastic and energetic four year-olds to graceful and mature adulthood, will take the Kahilu Theatre stage on Saturday (7pm) and Sunday (2pm), May 1 and 2 in “Water-ver May-be” a multi-media extravaganza choreographed and conceived by Hawai`i Island’s own Angel Prince. This delightful production follows the journey of a brother and sister through the world of water. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for youth and $5 for ages 5 and under. Tickets may be purchased through the Kahilu Theatre Box Office.
Through their journey, siblings Max and Violet learn of the importance of clean water in all its forms. They follow the water cycle through rain, snow, bog, aquifer, stream, ocean, cloud and back to rain. A water-filled journey of exploration and education.
Video by Jay Nelson effectively illuminates endangered portions of the water cycle which enhances the on-stage action and message. The script is a wonderful collaboration by Beth Dunnington and Angel Prince. Costumes are designed by Emily Lucht.
In the course of preparing for this production, cast members participated in a stream clean-up on March 13 at Waikoloa Stream with Margaret Fowler of the Mauna Kea Soil and Water Conservation District and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation District.
“The world of water . . . don’t miss out on this dance extravaganza showcasing earth’s water in its myriad forms.”
This production and its educational components is made possible through the support of the County of Hawaii Department of Research and Development and Friends of the Kahilu Theatre Foundation.
